Desktop App for Windows v 4.6.0 - Egnyte Actions Improvements

External Release Notes: Egnyte Desktop App for Windows 4.6.0 (August 11, 2026)

New Features and Improvements

Redesigned Egnyte Actions Menu with Integrated Third-party Apps

The Egnyte Actions right-click menu now has a refreshed look that matches the Mac app, with a clear Egnyte Actions header and the name of the selected file or folder. The menu surfaces the organization's connected third-party integrations directly, with Edit (formerly 'Open with') and Integrations (formerly 'Share with' / 'Other Integrations') options built in. Egnyte Actions can also be triggered by right-clicking empty space inside a folder not just by selecting the folder itself and menu items are no longer truncated, as submenus now resize to fit their content.

Enforcing ‘Map Drive Access Only’ Restrictions in the Desktop App

When an admin restricts a user's account to Map Drive access only, that restriction is now enforced consistently across the Desktop App. Actions that used to open a browser session such as View Online are hidden or disabled for those users. The app's main window (opened from the tray icon) is not affected and displays Homepage and other features available directly in Desktop App. This closes a gap that previously let restricted users reach the web interface anyway.

AI Assistant Now Opens in the Main App Window

Selecting AI Assistant from Egnyte Actions previously opened a separate pop-up window. It now opens the AI Assistant tab in the Desktop App's main window instead, keeping the selected files or folders as context. This brings AI Assistant in line with the rest of the app's AI capabilities as they move into a single, consistent experience.

More Reliable CLI Log-out for MEM Joined Environments

Signing out of the Desktop App via the command line (-command logout) is now more reliable in environments where drives are MEM joined: sign-out now completes cleanly across MEM-joined drives, and the associated access tokens are properly revoked.

Custom Access URL Fallback for Restricted Networks

For domains using Custom Access URL (CAU), when a user adds a drive, Desktop App normally connects using the domain's CAU rather than the regular domain name. In network environments where the CAU itself is blocked, as can happen in China and other restricted networks, this previously left users unable to connect, with no way around it. The Desktop App now automatically falls back to the regular domain name if the CAU-based connection fails, so sign-in succeeds in these environments without any special configuration. When using SSO connection in such conditions, users should log in using their username rather than e-mail to ensure proper connection.

Issues Addressed

File-Saving Failures for AGTEK (Gradework4D) Files

Saving AGTEK (Gradework4D) project files stored in Egnyte could get a save error while a previous version of the file was still uploading. Files now save reliably even while a prior save is still in progress.

Thumbnail Display Issues in Offline and Connected Folders

Image thumbnails would fail to display, or briefly appear and then disappear, in Large and Extra Large icon views for folders configured for offline sync or as connected folders. Thumbnails now load and remain visible consistently across all Explorer view modes.

Folder Connection Errors for Mass-Deployed Drives

Users could be completely blocked from connecting any folder even on drives they had access to if a mass-deployed drive pointed to a cloud location they did not have permission to view. Drives with inaccessible locations are now shown as unavailable instead of blocking the entire folder picker.

Smart Cache Not Connecting Automatically on Startup

Desktop App stayed connected to the cloud instead of automatically switching to a healthy, local Smart Cache appliance at startup on tenants using a Custom Access URL. Users previously had to manually click Refresh All to establish the connection; it now happens automatically.

Excessive Sign-in Prompts for MDM-Deployed, MEM-Joined Drives

In some MDM-deployed configurations, users could still be prompted to sign in separately for each drive, even when they were MEM joined.

Known Issues and Limitations

How to Upgrade

Visit the Desktop App installers article to download and install the latest version of the Desktop App or update the existing app to the newest version on all devices. It may take a few days for the latest version to propagate to all user devices. However, users can manually upgrade their app immediately after the release.
