External Release Notes: Desktop App for Windows v 3.29.0 (October 10, 2025)
New Features And Improvements
Egnyte Copilot in Desktop App
A new Copilot tab is now available in the Egnyte Desktop App, giving users a dedicated space to interact with Egnyte Copilot without being redirected to the browser. From the tab, users can:
- Ask questions in natural language to get instant answers from files stored in Egnyte using global Knowledge Base.
- Create custom agents and knowledge bases from within the desktop app.
This feature is available for customers having the Egnyte Copilot Add-on. Contact your account manager or Egnyte Sales team for more information.
Sync Status Indicator
We have introduced a sync status indicator which will always be visible in Desktop App UI reflecting synchronisation status of Offline folders, Connected folders and any ongoing uploads.
Metadata Cache Improvements
The Desktop App now handles metadata cache more efficiently, improving overall performance—especially for users working with a large number of files and folders.
Issues Addressed
Missing Egnyte Options and App Startup Errors
The Egnyte Actions menu was not appearing in File Explorer, which also affected co-editing and syncing for some files. The issue was caused by an application crash during startup, preventing certain components from initializing correctly.
Improved Smart Cache Reconnection After Network Interruptions
In some cases, the Desktop App could temporarily switch from Hybrid Connected to Connected (cloud-only) mode when the system lost network connectivity—for example, after the device entered sleep mode. The app now detects when a Wi-Fi connection is restored and immediately re-establishes the Smart Cache connection, reducing latency and preventing unnecessary fallback to cloud-only mode.
Improved Compatibility with AutoDesk 3ds Max Save Operations
AutoDesk 3ds Max failed to save or reopen large project files when working with the Desktop App. The problem was caused by how 3ds Max handles temporary files during save operations. The Desktop App now accommodates this behavior to ensure files save correctly while preserving version history.
Missing Information in Advanced Status View
The Advanced status view in the Desktop App did not display cloud connection details for certain drives. The problem occurred when Smart Cache settings were disabled in the Web UI. The Desktop App now correctly displays Advanced status information regardless of this configuration.
Known Issues Or Limitations
No new limitations have been discovered.
