Migration Job Report

Migration Job Report is a downloadable Excel file that provides detailed post-job insights for migrations executed through the Egnyte Migration App.

This report is essential for auditing the success and scope of a migration, capturing data related to files transferred, exclusions, permission mappings, dry runs, and potential issues. The report includes details on sanitize, empty folders, data migration, permissions migration, and information on errors, if any.

Each tab in the report serves a specific purpose, offering granular visibility into different aspects of the migration job to assist in verification, troubleshooting, and compliance tracking.

 

How to Access Migration Report

  1. Navigate to Migration Dashboard.

  2. Click on the three-dots for the migration job and click on Download Job Report.

  1. Alternatively, click on the three-dots menu -> Details.

  2. Click on Download Job Report.

In either case, the migration job report will be downloaded on the user’s system as an excel file.

 

Details of Migration Job Report

Migration Summary

The Migration Summary tab provides a snapshot of the entire migration job. It lists details such as:

  • Source location
  • Destination location
  • Start time
  • End time
  • Total data transferred
  • Job completion status

A detailed summary of the migration job is included in this tab.

Exclusions

The Exclusions tab lists all files and folders that were excluded from the migration. This includes content omitted due to exclusion rules, unsupported file types, or path limitations. The tab helps users identify which items were excluded and verify if exclusion rules were correctly applied during the migration.

Sanitize

Sanitize tab displays total counts for renamed files, renamed directories, and sanitize errors. Below these metrics, the tab includes details of items that failed sanitization.

Data Migration

The Data Migration tab shows overall job metrics including total files scanned, migrated, and errored. Below the summary, it lists individual file records that could not be migrated due to errors. This tab helps verify what was successfully transferred and identify failed items.

True-ups

The True-ups tab captures changes synced after the initial migration, such as new or modified files. It helps ensure the destination stays up to date with the source when jobs are run incrementally.

Permissions Migration

The Permissions Migration tab shows all permissions that were transferred from the source to Egnyte. It includes summary counts for total permissions processed, explicit permissions, successfully migrated permissions, failed permissions, and total permission errors. The details of the permission errors are included.

This tab helps validate that permissions were migrated  and highlights any failures that may require follow-up.

Permissions Migration Simulation

Permissions migration simulation includes counts for 

  • Total permissions
  • explicit permissions
  • missing users
  • missing groups
  • total permission errors

The details of the permissions errors are included in the table.

Missing Users

The Missing Users tab lists source users who are not found or mapped in Egnyte. The number of non-inherited permissions are also included for each missing user.

Missing Groups

The Missing Groups tab shows group names from the source that are missing or unmapped in Egnyte. The number of non-inherited permissions are also included for each missing group.

Migration Dry Run

Migration Dry Run tab provides a summary of the simulated migration process.

Empty Folders

The Empty Folders tab provides a summary of folders in the source that contained no files at the time of migration. It includes counts for Total Empty Folders, Total Empty Folders Created, and Total Empty Folders Errors.

Below the summary, details of the errors, if any, are included.
