External Release Notes: AI Assistant (October 7, 2026)
New Features and Enhancements
Migration of Knowledge Bases to Agents
Egnyte Knowledge Bases are being retired and automatically converted to Agents. Existing Knowledge Bases retain their file sources, behavior, and settings, while the resulting Agents are available under the Agents section of the AI Assistant page. This transition preserves the existing Knowledge Base functionality while bringing it into the Agents experience.
- Teams that have built integrations against the Knowledge Base API or use the Egnyte MCP Server will need to update those integrations.
- The migration will happen gradually and will be completed for all customers over the next two weeks.
Schedule Tasks in AI Assistant
Users can now schedule tasks in AI Assistant to run automatically at a defined cadence. After creating a task by entering a prompt, users can set it to run Daily, Weekly, or Monthly on the days and time selected. They can tag specific agents or connector in their prompt while scheduling the task.
The results are added to the conversation history, and users receive an in-app notification when a task completes. Scheduled tasks can also be Edited, Paused, or Resumed at any time, helping users automate recurring work without having to manually run the same task each time.
- Only Power Users and Admins can use scheduled tasks. Standard users do not have this capability.
- Each user can have at most 20 active schedules.
- A scheduled run can't answer clarifying questions or sign in to a connector, so a connector must already be authenticated.
Upload Files from the System in AI Assistant and Agents
Users can now attach files directly from their computer in conversations with AI Assistant and Agents, without first uploading them to Egnyte. Files can be selected, dragged and dropped, or pasted into a prompt, with up to 20 files supported per prompt.
Uploaded files are stored in the user's private AI Uploads folder and marked with the AI upload tag for easy identification. This provides a more flexible way to work with files that are not already stored in Egnyte and reduces the steps required to bring local files into AI conversations.
Personalize AI with Corporate Glossary
Egnyte now provides the ability to personalize AI Assistant and Agents by defining a Corporate Glossary with company-specific terms and definitions. Admins can add terms individually or import a glossary using a CSV file. This helps AI interpret terminology according to the organization's context instead of relying on general or public meanings, resulting in more relevant responses.
Egnyte Agents in External MCP Server
AI tools connected through Egnyte MCP Server, including Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, and Gemini Enterprise, can now work with Egnyte Agents. Users can view the Agents available to them and send a question to a specific Agent. The Agent responds using its configured instructions and content sources, as it does in Egnyte.
For individual requests, users can also provide additional files or folders for the Agent to use without changing its configuration. Agent responses can take up to two minutes, and the AI tool automatically checks for the response until it is ready.
- The feature is available to customers with the AI add-on or a Gen 4 plan, on domains where Agents are enabled. Contact the Egnyte account manager or Egnyte Sales team for more information.
- The Agent list shows active Agents created by the user and shared with them. Egnyte's built-in Agents are not included.
- If an Agent needs the user to confirm an action or connect an external app during a run, it cannot finish through MCP. It is recommended to run that Agent in Egnyte UI instead.
