Egnyte MCP Server - Connecting Egnyte to Claude

Egnyte is available as a connector in Claude enabling the users to seamlessly access the Egnyte content directly within their Claude conversations.

Egnyte connector provides Claude with secure access to the organization’s content stored in Egnyte, enabling advanced document search, AI-powered analysis, and intelligent content management. Through the Egnyte MCP Server, Claude can search for files, retrieve document content, ask questions about specific documents, generate summaries, and upload or download binary files (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx, .pdf). It can interact with Egnyte AI capabilities like Egnyte’s AI Assistant and Agents.

Egnyte MCP Server feature is available for all plans with the AI add-on enabled by default or purchased. Contact your account manager or Egnyte Sales team to get access to this feature.

Setting Up the Egnyte Connector

Technical details of the Egnyte connector can be found in Egnyte’s MCP Server Documentation. Authentication is handled via OAuth 2.0, providing secure access to the Egnyte content.

Prerequisites

  • An active Egnyte account on Essential, Elite, or Ultimate plans OR Platform Enterprise or Enterprise Lite plans with the AI add-on
  • Claude paid plans (Pro, Team, Enterprise)
  • Egnyte domain name and credentials for authentication
  • For binary file uploads and downloads: In the Claude organization settings, enable network egress for *.egnyte.com. Go to Organization Settings > Capabilities > Code execution and file creation > Allow network egress, select Package managers plus specific domains, and add *.egnyte.com. Without this, text-based operations (search, summarize, Q&A) will work, but file transfers will fail with a 403 host_not_allowed error

- Once the feature is enabled for a domain, all domain users can connect to and authenticate in Claude. No admin controls are available to restrict access for specific users.
- The applicable API request limits are 180 requests per minute per user and 250 requests per day per user.

Troubleshooting Guide

403 Host_Not_Allowed Error When Uploading or Downloading Files

This error occurs when Claude's code sandbox blocks outbound requests to *.egnyte.com.

To allow file transfers, add *.egnyte.com to the allowed domains under Organization Settings > Capabilities > Code execution and file creation > Allow network egress > Package managers plus specific domains.

Search, Summarize, and Q&A Work, File Upload or Download Fails

Text-based operations can work through the connector without network egress, but binary file transfers require direct access to Egnyte signed URLs. If egress is not configured, file transfers fail even though search and other text-based operations continue to work.

Add *.egnyte.com to the allowed domains under Organization Settings > Capabilities > Code execution and file creation > Allow network egress > Package managers plus specific domains.
