Newforma Certification on Egnyte Smart Cache

Introduction

We have certified Smart Cache version 5.1 with Newforma Project Center. This was a joint effort between Egnyte and the Newforma teams. The certification process focused on successfully configuring the Newforma Project Center with Smart Cache, and ensuring that Newforma Project Center operated correctly with the project data on Smart Cache.

This article provides technical guidance to customers who want to configure Newforma Project Center with Egnyte. It does not provide product or other technical details related to Newforma Project Center.

Deploying Smart Cache for Newforma Project Center

This section outlines technical considerations for deploying Egnyte Smart Cache to host content for Newforma Project Center workloads. Follow the instructions to deploy and install Smart Cache.

Deployment Location
  • Smart Cache needs to be deployed in the same location where the Newforma Project Center server is physically located
  • Do not connect Newforma Project Center to a Smart Cache in a remote office over VPN, SD-WAN or MPLS
Smart Cache Sizing Guidelines
  • 8 CPUs, 16 GB RAM
  • At least a 2 TB data disk
Smart Cache Collaboration Mode
Smart Cache Sync, Cache Warming
  • If you have several TB’s of project content that need to be indexed, do not select project folders for sync or cache warming

Configure Smart Cache in DFS Namespace

We highly recommend configuring DFS Namespace with Smart Cache before the cutover of Newforma Project Center to Egnyte. This will eliminate the need to re-path project folders within Newforma when a cutover is performed. As a result, Newforma Project Center will not perform a re-index of all the historical projects. The NPC re-indexing, after the cutover, can take several weeks to complete.

Managing NPC Re-Indexing with Smart Cache

If DFS namespace is not an option, and the cutover requires relinking all the project folders, please work with Newforma Support to evaluate how to relink optimally for best performance.

How to Troubleshoot Issues

  • Newforma re-indexing is a resource-intensive operation. If an alert is triggered related to Smart Cache running out of disk space during the re-indexing process, pause the Newforma re-indexing and add more data disk to the Smart Cache.
  • If the Smart Cache is not responsive for any other reason, please perform basic troubleshooting or contact Egnyte Support.
  • If any errors are identified in Newforma Project Center, please contact Newforma Support to identify the root-cause of the problem.
