Microsoft Purview and Egnyte Integration

Egnyte integrates Microsoft Purview seamlessly to obtain the label definitions and add them to files in the Egnyte Repository. Microsoft Purview (a.k.a. Azure Information Protect or Microsoft Information Protect) enables customers to stamp the files based on the content and provide the sensitivity levels.

Use Cases

In today’s fast-paced digital world, organizations require robust security solutions that protect sensitive information wherever it lives.

By integrating Egnyte with Microsoft Purview and leveraging top Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) and Data Loss Prevention (DLP) platforms, companies can use a common document labeling framework to simplify data classification and strengthen defenses against data exfiltration.

The following use cases demonstrate how this integration delivers consistent and streamlined security and compliance, empowering organizations to collaborate safely and respond quickly to emerging threats.

1. Unified Data Classification and Protection: With Microsoft Purview sensitivity labels applied consistently across Egnyte and other security platforms, organizations can classify and secure sensitive content from the beginning. This unified method ensures that all data, whether on-premises or in the cloud, is protected by the same robust policies. As a result, businesses can confidently manage sensitive information across all digital environments.

2. Consistent Policy Enforcement Across Endpoints: The integration allows for effective enforcement of security policies across multiple solutions like Zscaler, Netskope, and others. Sensitivity labels serve as a universal language that guides each security tool on how to handle sensitive content resulting in reliable protection. This cohesive policy framework minimizes misconfiguration and strengthens overall data security.

3. Effective Data Exfiltration Prevention: By leveraging a common labeling framework, organizations can seamlessly identify and protect against unauthorized data transfers. Sensitivity labels embedded in Egnyte files trigger predefined DLP controls across integrated solutions, immediately flagging or blocking suspicious behavior. This proactive defense mechanism reduces the risk of data leaks and exfiltration incidents, safeguarding critical business information.

4. Streamlined Regulatory Compliance: Organizations facing strict regulatory requirements benefit from a consistent document classification system that simplifies audit trails and compliance reporting. With sensitivity labels automatically applied and recognized across all integrated platforms, companies can manage sensitive data in alignment with industry standards like GDPR, HIPAA, or CCPA. This eases the compliance burden and builds trust with stakeholders through robust data governance.

5. Secure Collaboration and Information Sharing: Sensitive information can be shared securely with internal teams and external partners using the same trusted labeling framework. The integration results in every file carrying its security context, enabling secure collaboration without compromising data protection. This approach enhances productivity while maintaining strict security standards across all collaborative efforts.

6. Accelerated Incident Response and Forensic Analysis: In the event of a security incident, a common labeling framework provides clear context regarding the sensitivity and importance of each file. This allows incident response teams to prioritize and investigate potential threats more efficiently, leading to faster remediation. The integrated view across Egnyte and other DLP tools also supports detailed forensic analysis, enabling a well-coordinated and effective response.

Reference Integrations - Zscaler and Netskope

Egnyte integrates with Zscaler and Netskope through a common Microsoft Purview (or Microsoft Information Protection) document labeling framework.

Documents in Egnyte that match a content classification policy are persistently labeled with a mapped Microsoft Purview label. As Zscaler and Netskope sync the same Microsoft Purview labels, their respective DLP policies can consistently enforce corresponding DLP actions on these documents in Egnyte.
