The Egnyte for Intune iOS app can receive the Mobile Device Entitlement token through an Intune App Configuration Policy for Managed apps. The token reaches the app through the Intune SDK, so it works on Bring Your Own Devices (BYOD) and managed devices without Company Portal or MDM enrollment of the device.
Requirements
The configuration requires the following:
- Egnyte for Intune iOS app, version 9.11.1 or later
- Mobile Device Entitlement enabled for the Egnyte domain, with a Mobile Device Entitlement token generated
- Access to the Microsoft Intune admin center with permission to create app configuration policies
Creating the App Configuration Policy
The policy is created in the Microsoft Intune admin center under Apps > App configuration policies > Create > Managed apps. A name and description are defined on the first screen, for example, Egnyte for Intune app configuration.
Under Public apps, Egnyte for Intune is selected as the target app. In Settings > General configuration settings, a single name or value pair carries the token:
Name |
Value |
| deviceEntitlementToken | The Mobile Device Entitlement token generated for the domain |
The policy is then assigned to the users or groups that should receive it. Intune confirms with the message Configuration saved once the policy is reviewed and saved.
What Users Experience
Once the policy is assigned, no additional steps are required from users. When a user signs in to Egnyte for Intune, the app enrolls the user in Intune as part of the login flow. The Intune SDK passes the token to the app, and the app recognizes the entitlement and completes the setup.
Restricting the Regular Egnyte App
The policy delivers the token only to Egnyte for Intune. The regular Egnyte iOS app does not receive it. With Mobile Device Entitlement enabled and access from unmanaged devices not allowed in the domain settings, administrators can therefore allow Egnyte for Intune on BYOD phones or tablets that are not MDM-enrolled while restricting sign-in from the regular Egnyte app.
