External Release Notes: Egnyte Desktop App for Windows 4.7.0 (September 17, 2026)
New Features and Improvements
File Locks Now Hold Until Changes Reach the Cloud
When a file is edited through the Egnyte drive, its lock is now held until the new version has been confirmed in the cloud, rather than being released the moment the application closes the file. This closes the window in which another user could open and edit an outdated copy while an upload was still in progress, and reduces the number of conflict copies.
Azure Virtual Desktop Support
Desktop App is now supported on Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), on both pooled multi-session and personal host pools running Windows 10 or Windows 11 Enterprise, with FSLogix profile containers.
Deployments require ED_SUPPORT_VDI=1 at install time and additional configuration steps will be required. Refer to Egnyte Desktop App on Azure Virtual Desktop for detailed instructions and best practices.
- Adaptive Block Caching is not yet supported on AVD due to known issues of drives falling back to Classic mode on the host switch. We are working on addressing it and introducing support for ABC in upcoming releases.
- Other VDI platforms and environments, including Citrix, VMware Horizon, and Windows 365 Cloud PC, are not validated as part of this support. They may work, but Egnyte has not tested them and cannot provide configuration guidance.
Manual File Locking on Adaptive Block Caching Drives
Manual file locking is now available on drives running in Adaptive Block Caching mode. Users with Write permission to a file can lock and unlock it from the file context menu, see who currently holds a lock, and review their own locks from the Locked Files tab.
Upload Status Floating Bar
Egnyte is introducing a floating status bar that surfaces upload activity to users, giving a persistent view of in-progress uploads. Closing the window will not cancel uploads. This feature is disabled by default and can be enabled from the application Preferences.
The speed is in Megabytes/Gigabytes. The uploads cannot be cancelled.
Issues Addressed
Files not Uploading After Being Edited
A file edited through the Egnyte drive could intermittently fail to upload to the cloud, leaving the newer version only on the user's computer with no error shown. Updated files now upload reliably.
Ask a Document not Working on Smart Cache Connected Drives
The Ask a Document action did not work for files on a Smart Cache connected drive. Ask a Document now works as expected on these drives.
The Drive Showing as Connected While Missing from File Explorer
The Desktop App reported the drive as connected but the Egnyte drive did not appear in File Explorer, leaving users to close Egnyte processes and restart Explorer to recover. The drive now mounts and appears reliably.
Date Modified Changing When Files are Moved on the Drive
Moving or copying a file on a drive running in Adaptive Block Caching mode reset its Date modified timestamp instead of preserving the original. Timestamps and file attributes are now preserved.
Failures Collecting Desktop App Logs
Submitting logs through Contact Support, or generating a log bundle locally, could fail to complete. Log collection now succeeds.
Known Issues and Limitations
No new limitations have been discovered. Please refer to this article for the list of known limitations.
