Egnyte enables users to access and use Microsoft Copilot while co-editing Microsoft Office files stored in Egnyte. To make this functionality available, administrators must establish the connection between the Microsoft tenant and the Egnyte storage provider tenant.
This article outlines the requirements, guidelines, and steps for the admins to enable the connection, helping users seamlessly use Microsoft Copilot with files stored in Egnyte during collaboration.
Prerequisites
- Microsoft 365 subscription that supports the Cloud Policy Service (Microsoft 365 Apps for Business or Enterprise)
- Microsoft 365 Global Administrator or Office Apps Administrator role in the Microsoft 365 admin center is required
- Microsoft Office Desktop and Mobile integration enabled on Egnyte domain
- Users should have Egnyte storage added within Office Desktop
Identify the Domain's Workgroup ID
- On any browser and access the url https://your-domain-here.egnyte.com/rest/public/1.0/env-pub(replace your-domain-here with the actual Egnyte domain name).
- Search using CTRL + F and find the value for workgroupId.
- The value will be a UUID, such as 429ee5ef-460a-4366-a5fa-dbdb02650851.
- Copy this, and save for the next step.
Set Up the Policy in Microsoft
-
Open the Admin Policies exposed through Cloud Policy Service.
Commercial and US Government customers can access the Microsoft 365 Apps admin center directly in the Microsoft Intune admin center, under Apps > Policies for Microsoft 365 apps.
- Click + Create to create a new policy.
- Enter a name for the policy and click on Next.
- Choose the scope: This policy configuration applies to all users OR This policy configuration applies to users in the specified groups. Click on Next.
- Click on Enable Third Party Storage Provider Connections to configure it.
- Enter the configuration settings and click on Save.
- Configuration setting: Enabled
- Name: TP_EGNYTE_PLUS
-
Value: Workgroup ID from previous step
-
Review the details and click on Create.
- The policy may take up to 24 hours to propagate. To expedite the update, users can sign out of their Microsoft 365 account and sign back in, which forces the policy to be downloaded again.
- Copilot only has context for the file currently open for co-editing and the SharePoint files. It cannot access or search other files stored in Egnyte unless those files are actively open for co-editing.
Once enabled and available, the users will be able to access and use Copilot while co-editing Microsoft files in Egnyte.
