Permission Denied Error for Standard Users

Overview

In some cases, users may receive Permission denied error while uploading data through the Web UI. When the issue occurs it is normally caused by antivirus or content filtering software's (for example, ZScaler) actively blocking the upload from the web browser. This issue is mainly observed with external users (Standard Users) having restrictive content sharing policies within their organizations.

How to Solve the Issue?

The Permission denied error is likely caused by the antivirus and/or content filtering software flagging the Egnyte domain, restricting traffic to the Web UI or blocking uploads from the web browser. If the Egnyte administrator has verified folder permissions are set up correctly, whitelisting Egnyte domains within the user’s antivirus software might be required. To alleviate this, add the following domains to the antivirus software’s whitelist:

  • egnyte.com
  • *.egnyte.com
  • <domain name>.egnyte.com

Once added to the whitelist, verify with the external user if the issue has been resolved. For additional hostnames and IP addresses for whitelisting, please see this article.

If the issue still persists after whitelisting the necessary items, please contact Egnyte Support.
