Egnyte's AI Assistant on Egnyte Mobile Android App

Overview

Egnyte's AI Chat on Android provides an AI-powered conversational interface grounded in a company’s data. It enables employees to ask questions in natural language and receive contextually relevant answers based on the content stored within their organization’s Egnyte environment.

AI uses Egnyte’s enterprise-grade security and access controls, ensuring that responses remain aligned with permissions, file access, and organizational data safeguards. It is designed to help teams quickly locate information, summarize documents, and understand content while working on the go, leveraging the familiar and robust Android platform for secure mobile access.

This feature is available for customers having Platform Plans with AI Add-on and included in the New Generation Platform plans. Contact the account manager or Egnyte Sales team for more information.

Accessing AI Assistant on the Android Mobile App

An Ask Me Anything button has been added to most screens, providing a quick and convenient way to open AI Assistant as needed.

Using AI Assistant Chat

When the AI Assistant interface is open, two conversational modes are available:

AI Assistant (All Company Data)

This mode uses all accessible company content as the foundation for generating responses. It aligns with the user’s permission set, ensuring that results reflect only the data that the user is allowed to see.

On mobile, this is always the default behavior. Folder-level or file-level source selection is not supported in the current version.

Knowledge Bases

Knowledge Bases (KB) provide responses based solely on the content stored within a specific KB folder.

Switching to a Knowledge Base allows the conversation to be grounded in a curated set of documents chosen by the organization.

Features Supported on the Android Mobile App

The initial mobile release includes core conversational functionality:

  • Source and Model Selector
Source and Model Selection allows greater control over how responses are generated. In addition to Egnyte content (which is always included), optional web sources can be enabled, and a single large language model can be selected from the supported models to power the conversation. Gemini-2.5 Flash is the model selected by default. The model selector is also available in the Document AI feature for domains with Egnyte AI Add-on plan.

  • AI Connectors: The AI Connectors source selector allows users to view and manage which external app connectors (for example: Slack, Outlook, or Salesforce)  AI Assistant draws from when responding to prompts. When multiple connectors are active, AI Assistant combines insights from Egnyte content and all enabled external sources to deliver richer, cross-platform answers.

Connectors must first be configured on the Egnyte Web UI: in the AI Assistant chat, the + button provides access to the connector setup flow. Once a connector has been added on the web, it becomes available on mobile. To ensure the mobile app reflects newly added connectors, the app must be sent to the background or fully closed and relaunched.
On mobile, individual connectors can be toggled On or Off from the AI Connectors selector to control which ones AI Assistant uses in a given conversation.
    .
Connector setup and management is available exclusively through the Egnyte web AI page.

The AI Connector selectors are only visible if the user has at least one connector configured on the Egnyte web app. If no connectors have been set up, the selector does not appear on mobile.

  • Voice Input
A microphone icon is available within supported chats. When activated, speech is transcribed in real time, with a waveform visual indicating active recording. If a pause longer than three seconds occurs, recording automatically stops, and transcription remains available for review and optional editing. Recording may be manually resumed as needed (by tapping on the microphone icon), and the prompt can then be submitted through the standard submission control.
