Users can leverage Agent Mode Egnyte’s AI Assistant to connect to external connectors such as Atlassian, Gmail, Procore, and others. This helps bridge the gap between Egnyte and widely used productivity tools.
Egnyte's AI Assistant supports AI Connectors via MCP servers. Egnyte admin manages which connectors are available on the domain. Once a connector is published, users can connect to it and start using it directly from the AI Assistant. The admin can also publish additional connectors beyond the Egnyte-provided catalog. Check the Connectors panel for the full list available on the domain.

Enable Agent Mode
It is required to enable the agent mode in order to use the AI connectors.
- Navigate to Egnyte’s AI Assistant and click on the Tools icon.
- Enable the toggle for the Agent Mode.
The AI Assistant will have the agent mode enabled and can be identified with the Labs badge added.
Add and Connect a Connector
End users can Add and Connect the connectors that have been published for their domains by their admin. Users can also browse connectors from the Egnyte catalog using the By Egnyte filter.
Each connector requires the users to authenticate with the external service using their own credentials as the admin cannot do this on their behalf.
- Click on Egnyte’s AI Assistant -> Tools icon -> Connectors.
- Enable the connector(s) that show up or continue to view the other connectors to add by clicking on Add connectors.
- Select the desired connector and click on Add and Connect. Users can also filter the listed connectors using filters such as By Egnyte or Published. By default, all the connectors will show up.
- Provide the required authorization and Continue.
- Authenticate the connection by allowing the required permissions and Allow.
- Authentication will be complete and the connector will be added.
Use AI Assistant in Agent Mode
Once users have connected one or more connectors, they can ask the AI Assistant questions that span the connected services. The AI Assistant automatically selects the right tools based on the question. Users can interact with Egnyte's AI Assistant in the agent mode by providing their query.
The availability of connectors and tools depends on what the admin has published and what users have connected.
Users can ask the AI Assistant to retrieve information, compose messages, or search content from AI connectors published by their admins.
In the example above, the agent will look through the user’s mail and provide the details of the workflow-related emails received on the date of query.
The agent will conduct iterative retrieval if the details are not immediately found. It will fire multiple search queries, analyze the information, and synthesize a comprehensive report.
Agentic Search
In addition to using external connectors, Agent Mode enhances the AI Assistant's ability to search across the Egnyte content. The agentic search understands the context of the request and can reason through the custom metadata.
For instance, users can search for in-progress projects in California. Egnyte’s AI Assistant in the agent mode will search through the project metadata to provide the results.
Editing Connector Permissions
- Navigate to AI Assistant and click on the Open Connectors.
- Click on > of the desired connector to edit the tools and permissions.
- Use the respective toggles to enable or disable a particular tool. Users can also click on Disable all tools or Enable all tools to disable or enable all the tools at once.
For instance, If the user disables certain tools from a connector, the AI Assistant will not be able to access those capabilities.
Permission Prompts & Admin-controlled Restrictions
For some tools, the AI Assistant will ask for confirmation before taking an action (for example; sending an email, creating a page). This is a security feature configured by the admin. When prompted, review what the AI Assistant is about to do and click Approve or Reject. Tools marked as unsupervised by the admin will execute automatically without a prompt.
If a tool has been disabled by the admin, users will not be able to enable it from their side, and the AI Assistant will let them know when a requested action is unavailable because the tool is restricted. For example, the admin may have disabled email-sending tools while keeping email-search tools available. In these cases, the AI Assistant will tell users what it can do and suggest alternatives as mentioned earlier.
Disconnecting a Connector
- Navigate to AI Assistant and click on the Open Connectors.
- Click on > of the desired connector.
- Click on the Disconnect icon.
The connector will be disconnected.
