Overview
External Replication allows users to easily replicate their Egnyte data to a 3rd-party cloud in order to meet their cyber insurance and security compliance needs.
- This feature can be purchased as a standalone add-on available for Enterprise Lite, Enterprise, Essentials, Elite, and Ultimate plans. Contact your account manager or the Egnyte Sales team to add this feature.
- All data replicated through replication jobs and true-ups counts towards the subscribed external replication limit.
Prerequisites
- The end-user must have a Secure & Govern Tenant.
Key Features
- External Replication replicates Shared Data and, upon request, Private Data.
- It includes all data pre-dedupe, since “deduplication” is a feature inherent to Egnyte.
- It retains the same file directory structure on the destination.
- It allows the user to run true-ups Manually, Daily, Weekly, Bi-Weekly or Monthly.
- It is expected to replicate at a rate of 1 million objects (files or folders) per day.
- It currently replicates to Amazon S3, Azure Blob Storage, and Wasabi.
Role-Based Permissions
Admins can configure these capabilities for replication users as per their roles enabling them with the permissions to view, modify, or create replications.
- Navigate to Collaborate -> Settings -> User Management -> User Types & Roles
- Click on Secure & Govern Roles and click on the specific role to configure.
- Enable Migrate & Replicate (disabled by default). Select the permissions for users to see All Migrations & Replications (default), Migrations Only, or Replications Only. In created dropdown, select by everyone (default) or by themselves. Admins can then configure the associated permissions as per the selected option.
The available permissions change based on the selected Users see and created options. For example, when Replications only and by themselves are selected, only permissions related to creating replications and true-ups are available. Other permissions are disabled because they are not applicable to the selected scope.
This feature is applicable for customers with Unified User Directory Management for Collaborate and Secure & Govern enabled.
- Unified User Directory Management for Collaborate and Secure & Govern is currently in Limited Availability for all customers with only one Egnyte Content Source active in Secure & Govern. To request this feature, contact our Products team.
Limitations
- It is recommended to limit a single Replication job to 10TB and 10M objects. If the user has more data than 10TB to replicate, then it is best practice to create multiple Replication jobs.
- Egnyte can upload only 64 files concurrently due to a system limitation. Creating multiple external replication jobs will not circumvent this situation, as those are queued internally and executed serially - 64 files at a time.
- Replicating Google Slides (GSlides) are not currently supported.
- Replicating "empty folders" is not supported.
- When replicating, data is counted toward the external replication limit at its pre-dedupe size.
- It will not replicate the Trash contents from Egnyte.
- It will not replicate versions; only the latest version will be replicated.
- It does not retain permissions from Egnyte.
- It does not retain metadata, users or groups, or other features from Egnyte.
- Replication Jobs never expire, but the user can finalize them manually.
- Egnyte has no static egress IPs, so firewall IP whitelisting is not supported
