Data Collection mode for Smart Cache allows admins to deploy the device at locations where a large amount of content is generated and is required to be uploaded in real-time to Egnyte.
After configuring a Smart Cache device with the Data Collection mode, the user can map a network drive letter to the Smart Cache device and upload files through the drive.
Use-Cases
- Uploading photos and videos from job sites to the Smart Cache device
- Connecting laboratory devices over the UNC path to the Smart Cache device to upload data
Benefits
-
Users can upload large volumes of content to Egnyte in real time without consuming cache space on the Smart Cache device.
For example, when uploading approximately 5TB of drone footage from a construction site, enabling data collection mode allows the content to pass through the Smart Cache device without being cached. The files are uploaded directly to Egnyte Cloud, even if the Smart Cache disk has only 50GB of available space.
Without data collection mode enabled, a larger disk (for example, 500GB) would be required to cache the files locally before uploading—an unnecessary requirement in this use case.
