Search Filters in the Egnyte iOS App

The Egnyte iOS app includes a set of search filters that allow users to narrow results by location, content type, file type, date, contributor, and geolocation. The filter bar is displayed directly below the search field and remains accessible while composing or refining a search query.

Using the Filter Bar

The filter bar presents individual filter pills — Location, Content, Type, Modified, Uploaded, Updated by, and Geolocation — in a horizontally scrollable row. A filter icon on the left side of the bar displays the number of currently active filters. When a filter is active, its pill turns blue and displays the selected value. Filters take effect immediately upon selection; no separate confirmation step is required.

Location

The Location filter controls the scope of the search. Two options are available:

  • Any: searches across the entire Egnyte account
  • Current folder: limits results to the folder currently being browsed (selected by default when navigating into a folder before searching)

Content

The Content filter controls what types of items are returned in results:

  • All Files & Folders: returns both files and folders (default)
  • Files : returns files only
  • Folders : returns folders only

Type

The Type filter allows users to narrow results to a specific file format category. The following types are available: PDF, Document, Spreadsheet, Presentation, Image, Audio / Video, Text / Source Code, Google File, Email, CAD, and Archive. By default, Any is selected, which returns all file types.

Modified

The Modified filter allows users to narrow results to files last modified within a specific time period. The following preset options are available: Last 24 hours, Last 7 days, Last 30 days, Last 90 days, Last 180 days, and Last 360 days. A Custom option is also available for defining a specific date range using a calendar date picker. By default, Anytime is selected.

Uploaded

The Uploaded filter works in the same way as the Modified filter, but applies to the date a file was originally uploaded to Egnyte. The same preset time periods and Custom date range option are available.

Updated by

The Updated by filter allows users to narrow results to files last modified by a specific person. A search field within the filter panel queries the organization's directory as characters are entered, with matching names displayed as selectable results. A Me shortcut is available for quickly filtering to files updated by the currently signed-in user.

Geolocation

The Geolocation filter allows users to find files based on GPS metadata embedded in the file — for example, photos taken on a mobile device. By default, Any location is selected, which applies no location restriction. Selecting Custom opens a map picker where the search area can be defined.

The map picker displays an interactive map with a pin and a blue circle representing the current location and search radius. The location can be set by dragging the map to the desired point, or by using the Search field at the top to find a specific address — suggestions appear as characters are entered. The resolved address is displayed below the map. The Map Radius slider controls the size of the search area, and the active radius is shown numerically alongside the slider. Once the location and radius are set, the Continue button applies the filter.

The Geolocation filter only applies to files that contain GPS metadata. Files without location data will not appear in results regardless of the radius selected.
