Default Folder Options Settings for Copy, Move, and Folder Creation Using a Template

Egnyte provides users with the ability to choose default settings for folder options for copy and move actions. 

This article covers these default settings in detail to help users understand the available options and use them in line with their organization’s security and governance policies. It also provides a clear view of how these settings compare across the Web UI and Desktop, Mobile apps, or other clients.

Available Settings and Default Options

  1. Navigate to Settings -> Configuration -> General.

  2. Choose the settings for default folder options for copy action and default folder options for move action
    • For copy action, the default is set to Apply destination folder options and the checkbox for users to override the default value is checked
    • For move actions, the default is set to Keep source folder options. Please note that when the setting is set to Keep source folder options, it will always be overridable at the time of copying or moving the folder

  3. Modify the settings, as needed to Keep source folder options or Apply destination folder options for copy and move actions. Check the respective checkboxes to enable the users to override the default value.

  4. Click on Save changes.

  • The default is set to Apply destination folder options
  • Users can change this selection to Keep source folder options by selecting it from the Options dropdown. This is independent of their usual permission to manage folder options

  • If Apply destination folder options is used, the new folder inherits the destination folder’s settings
  • If changed to Keep source folder options, the new folder retains the source folder’s settings

The new folder always inherits the destination folder’s settings. Options will be disabled in the Copy dialog with a tooltip available for users.

The Copy dialog has Keep source folder options as the default in Options dropdown. Users can change this selection to Apply destination folder options.

Copy a Folder (Desktop, Mobile, and Other Clients)

By default, the setting configured in the Web UI for the copy action will apply. The new folder will inherit the destination folder settings or retain the source folder’s settings accordingly.

Create a Folder from Template

When creating a folder from a template, the configured defaults do not affect this action. Folder options always follow Keep source folder options, meaning the new folder retains the settings from the template.

When creating a project from a template, the configured defaults do not apply. Folder options always follow Keep source folder options, so the resulting project retains the settings from the template.

Move a Folder (Web UI)

  • Users can change this selection to Keep source folder options, independent of their usual permission to manage folder options for move actions
