Microsoft has officially announced the retirement of the SharePoint Add-in model. As a result, the legacy Egnyte for SharePoint Online (v1) integration will be retired and will stop functioning on April 2, 2026.
To ensure uninterrupted access to Egnyte files within SharePoint, administrators must remove the legacy integration and transition to Egnyte for SharePoint Online v2.
What’s Changing?
Following Microsoft's roadmap to modernize SharePoint, all SharePoint add-ins are being retired across Microsoft 365. After April 2, 2026, the legacy Egnyte v1 Add-in will be disabled and will no longer be able to display the Egnyte-stored content within SharePoint sites.
Why Upgrade to v2?
The new v2 integration provides seamless experience for file management:
- Real-time Sync: Embed Egnyte folder structures directly into SharePoint pages.
- Enhanced Performance: Built on the latest SharePoint framework for improved reliability and security.
- Full Egnyte Web UI Access: Perform the same actions available in the Egnyte Web UI directly within the SharePoint interface
- Granular Control: Admins can now set specific default directory paths for different SharePoint sites.
What You Need to Do?
1. Disable and Remove the Legacy (v1) Integration
Before deploying the new version, the legacy Add-in must be removed to prevent UI conflicts.
- Navigate to the SharePoint Admin Center.
- Select More features and click Open under the Apps section.
- On the Manage Apps page, locate the legacy (any version below under 1.2.0.5) Egnyte for SharePoint app. Select it and click on Delete.
- Confirm the deletion when prompted. This will remove the legacy component from all sites in the tenant.
2. Install Egnyte for SharePoint Online v2
Follow these steps to deploy the modern integration:
- Download the new Egnyte for SharePoint App manifest file.
- In the SharePoint Admin Center > Manage Apps, click Upload and select the new manifest file.
- In the Enable app panel, select Enable this app and add it to all sites and click Enable app.
- Confirm that the state appears as Enabled.

- Delete the old, non-functional web part.
- Click the gray + (plus) button to add a new web part and select Egnyte for SharePoint v2.
- Authenticate the Egnyte domain.
