Egnyte now offers File Server Connector (FSC) within the Secure & Govern platform to efficiently scan and monitor on-premise servers by deploying lightweight, easy-to-install agents.
Egnyte is officially announcing the End of Life (EOL) for Site Connector effective from March 13, 2026. This decision has been made in order to provide a more optimized and secure solution with Egnyte’s new File Server Connector agent.
What does this mean for the users?
Egnyte FSC offers several benefits over the earlier process of deploying a site connector VM that ran on a VMware or Hyper-V hypervisor and an agent (Windows service) that ran on each monitored file server. The users can experience the following benefits with the new Egnyte FSC.
- An agent-based plug & play solution that is easy to deploy
- No Intermediate VM needs to be deployed or maintained
- Elimination of SMB protocol issues that could impact snapshots
- Significant performance improvement over current snapshot processing capabilities
- VSS shadow copy space has been insufficient at times, which has resulted in snapshot failure. That issue is also rectified by our new solution.
Installation Process for New File Server Connector
Users can install the new File Server Connector (FSC) on all the file servers currently connected to Egnyte Secure & Govern via Site Connector.
- Navigate to Secure & Govern -> Settings -> Content Sources and click on Add on-premises source.
- Click on File Server Connector -> File Server Connector Installer to download the setup on the machine. Follow the steps as mentioned here.
Uninstall the Old Agents
Once the new File Server Connector is installed, configured, and connected to Secure & Govern (new agents can run alongside the existing agents), the admins can safely uninstall the old agents and remove the Site Connector VM from their environment.
