Egnyte MCP Server feature is available for all plans with the AI add-on enabled by default or purchased. Contact your account manager or Egnyte Sales team to get access to this feature.
Setting Up the Egnyte Connector
Technical details of the Egnyte connector can be found in Egnyte’s MCP Server Documentation. Authentication is handled via OAuth 2.0, providing secure access to the Egnyte content.
Prerequisites
- An active Egnyte account on Essential, Elite, or Ultimate plans, OR Platform Enterprise or Platform Enterprise Lite with the AI add-on
- ChatGPT account
- Egnyte domain name and credentials for authentication
- To upload or download binary files such as .docx, .xlsx, .pptx, and .pdf files through the Egnyte MCP Server, the ChatGPT workspace execution environment must allow outbound network access to *.egnyte.com. Text-based operations such as search, summarization, and Q&A do not require this access and continue to work without the egress configuration
- Workspace administrators must allow *.egnyte.com in the network egress settings for the execution environment. The exact location of this setting depends on the ChatGPT workspace configuration
- Once the feature is enabled for a domain, all domain users can connect to and authenticate in ChatGPT. No admin controls are available to restrict access for specific users.
- The applicable API request limits are 180 requests per minute per user and 250 requests per day per user.
Adding the Connector as an Organization Owner
- Open ChatGPT.
- Go to the bottom left and click on the profile icon.
- Click on Settings.
- Click on Apps.
- The connected apps will be displayed. Click on Explore apps.
- Search for Egnyte.
- Click on the app and click on Connect.
- Click on Continue to provide authorization.
- Enter the domain and click on Continue to log into the Egnyte domain.
- Click on Allow Access to provide access.
- Egnyte will now be connected and users can Start chat.
Troubleshooting Guide
403 or Host-Blocked Error When Uploading or Downloading Files
This error occurs when the ChatGPT workspace execution environment does not allow outbound access to *.egnyte.com. Binary file transfers use Egnyte signed URLs and require this network access, while text-based operations such as search, summarization, and Q&A can continue to work.
To resolve the issue, ask the ChatGPT workspace administrator to allow outbound network access to *.egnyte.com in the workspace's execution environment or network egress settings. After the domain is allowed, retry the file upload or download.
