Enabling or Disabling Auto-Update

The auto-update setting can be configured during the process of marking a folder for offline access. A prompt is displayed with the option to enable or skip auto-updates.

The setting can also be modified using the More menu (⋯) by selecting the enable or disable auto-update option.

When do Auto-Updates Occur

Auto-updates are triggered in the following cases:

  • When the application is launched
  • When the app transitions from background to foreground
  • When the folder marked for offline is opened or refreshed from the listing view
  • When the Offline tab is opened

Auto-updates apply only to files in the folder marked for auto-update. Subfolder contents are not updated automatically.

Storage Considerations

If an auto-update action requires more storage than what is currently allocated for offline files on the

device, a warning message is displayed. Three options are provided:

  • Continue: Increases the offline storage allocation to unlimited and proceeds with the update
  • Disable Auto-Update: Cancels the update and turns off automatic syncing
  • Cancel: Closes the prompt with no changes made

Offline Mode Behavior

When the device is offline, the Offline tab displays a message indicating the time of the last successful sync. The message also recommends reconnecting to the internet to access the latest content.

Behavior When Auto-Update Is Disabled

If auto-update is turned off, a message is shown in the Offline tab indicating that files will not update automatically. A note is included to guide users to the More menu (⋯) for re-enabling the feature.

Limitations and Future Improvements

Several enhancements are planned for the upcoming phases of Offline Folder Auto-Update, including:

  • Support for moved content: Files and folders moved to a different location in the cloud may not always update correctly in the Offline tab. Improvements are underway to handle these cases more reliably.
  • More control over auto-updated folders: Future updates will allow easier management of auto-update on a per-folder basis, without needing to disable the feature entirely.
  • Clearer auto-update status: Currently, there is no visual indicator to show whether a folder is set to auto-update. A clearer distinction is planned for a better experience.
  • Better alignment with admin policies: Auto-update will soon respect changes to admin settings, such as when folder downloads are disabled at the domain level.
  • Redesign of the Offline tab UI: A refreshed look for the Offline tab is planned to better align it with the rest of the app, especially the file listing views.

Additional improvements are planned around download management, performance with large folders, expired file cleanup, and accuracy of download size estimates.

In addition to the above, some occasional glitches or unexpected behaviors may still occur. These are known and actively being addressed as part of ongoing development.

The Offline Auto-update experience will continue to improve with each release, with a strong focus on performance, reliability, and user clarity.
