External Link Detection identifies when folders or files are accessible to individuals outside the organization.
An External Link issue is created for the the following Egnyte Share Link types:
- Anyone with password
- Existing user(s)
- People you choose
The article covers the specific detection criteria for each link type.
Currently, the External Link detection is only supported for Egnyte content sources.
External Link Detection Criteria
To view and customize the detection criteria for External Link:
- Navigate to Secure and Govern -> Settings -> Analysis Rules -> External Link.
- Click on External Link and set the detection criteria by using the respective toggles.
There are three detection criteria available based on the type of link shared.
Detection Criteria: Links Shared with 'Anyone with password'
Issue will be created whenever an Anyone with password link is created, the user chooses the Email Link option and enters a Standard User or third-party e-mail address.
Detection Criteria: Links Shared with 'Existing user(s)'
Issue is created whenever an Existing user(s) link is created, the user chooses the Email Link option and enters a Standard User.
Detection Criteria: Links Shared with 'People you choose'
Issue is created whenever a People you choose link is created, the user chooses the Email link option and enters a Standard User or third-party e-mail address.
Link shared with domain users with unverified emails are treated as external users and would be detected as an External Link issue.
The example below shows an External Link issue detected based on all the three detection criteria mentioned above. On clicking the Show Details link, the issue details appear.
