Admins are able to control how employees access files in Egnyte. Admins can manage user access through multiple channels: Mobile, FTP, Egnyte Desktop App, and the Web Interface.
Mobile
Mobile access is available to all users with a login, irrespective of the Egnyte plan. By default, all Admin, Power, and Standard Users can download the Egnyte mobile app and download Egnyte content to their mobile device (i.e., Device Storage).
Admins can adjust the configuration settings for Mobile.
- Navigate to Settings -> Configuration -> Applications
-
Enable or disable the desired settings and click on Save Changes.
- Device Storage: When device storage is enabled, users can download files for offline access. Admins can specify the timeframe after which the files will be automatically deleted. Admins can also decide if encrypted storage is required and folder downloads should be allowed.
- Passcode Lock: This setting determines if the users need to set a passcode to open the app. Admins can also configure the passcode lock options and wiping of the local files after 10 incorrect attempts.
- Allow opening files into 3rd-Party Apps: If this is enabled, Egnyte mobile app can be opened into third-party apps for viewing and editing.
- Allow access on iOS: Enabling this setting allows users to access mobile app on the iOS platform.
-
Allow access on Android: Enabling this setting allows users to access mobile app on the Android platform.

FTP
FTP access is available to Admins and/or Power Users on all plans. By default, these users can access FTP, but Admins can restrict access and/or require only secure connections.
To adjust FTP settings, navigate to Settings -> Configuration -> Applications.
If the Admin enables FTP, they will need to decide which users can transmit data using FTP and if a secure FTP connection is required. The Admin can choose to enable this for Admins only or for Admins and Power Users.
Standard FTP poses security risks by transmitting unencrypted usernames and passwords over the network. Egnyte recommends selecting the FTPES (SSL-based FTP) or SFTP (SSH-based FTP) box. Click on Save changes after configuring the settings.
Desktop App
Admins can control Desktop App access to restrict Power Users from viewing and editing files directly from their desktops.
To modify access, navigate to Settings -> Configuration -> User Types & Roles.
For Power Users, access to Desktop App is enabled by default. Admin can choose to disable the access using the toggle and click on Save Changes. Toggling the option to Disabled will remove the product download links that appear in the Apps & Integrations page.
Individual Control
The settings described above are applied on an account-wide basis. However, Admins can restrict individual users from accessing files through the web interface or Desktop App.
To modify web and desktop access, navigate to Settings -> Users & Groups -> Users.
Hover over the user to edit their Details, click on Details.
Click on Profile, make the desired changes, and click on Save.
