When users open a file from the Egnyte Drive in Finder, it is automatically downloaded and stored locally in a macOS-managed cache. This allows them to work with the files even when the users are offline.
Automatic Cache Management
- Files are cached automatically when accessed (opened, previewed, etc.).
- These files remain available offline for later use.
- macOS handles cache cleanup automatically, removing older or unused files when disk space is low.
- No need to manage this cache manually, but users can if needed.
Manual Download Removal
To free up disk space proactively, users can manually remove downloaded (cached) files:
Remove a Single File
- Right-click the file in Finder.
- Select Remove Download from the context menu.
Remove Downloads from a Folder
- Right-click the folder in Finder.
- Hold down the Option key (⌥) — this changes the Download Now option to Remove Download.
- Click Remove Download to clear all downloaded files within that folder.
Remove All Downloads from the Drive
- In Finder, right-click the Egnyte Drive under Locations.
- Hold the Option key (⌥).
- Select Remove Download to clear all cached files across the drive.
This gives full control over how much disk space the app uses. Great for managing storage on laptops or limited SSDs.
