External Release Notes: Public Cloud Connector v 4.1 (June 17, 2026)
New Features and Enhancements
Smart Cache on public cloud
Public Cloud Connector with Smart Cache is designed for performance-sensitive cloud deployments where customers want to run Smart Cache directly in Azure or AWS and keep it close to cloud-hosted users, applications, or compute resources. This capability enables faster access to data managed in Egnyte Cloud while removing the dependency on on-premises infrastructure.
- Cloud-hosted applications that require SMB-based file access and file-server–like behavior without changes to existing workflows
- SMB-dependent workflows where applications or services need consistent, low-latency access to shared files
- AI/Machine Learning and High performance computing (HPC) workloads that repeatedly access large datasets from Egnyte and benefit from localized caching near compute resources
- Cloud-first or cloud-only environments where organizations want to centralize data in Egnyte Cloud while enabling fast access within public cloud infrastructure
- File ingestion and downstream processing workflows, where files are ingested into Egnyte and then consumed by cloud-based applications, services, or automation pipelines
By deploying Smart Cache through PCC, customers can position the cache within the same cloud environment as their workloads, improving responsiveness for active file operations and enabling a more scalable, cloud-native architecture. Read more
Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) use cases (For example, Azure Virtual Desktop) are not supported in this release and will be addressed in a future update.
Enhanced User Interface for Public Cloud Connector
Public Cloud Connector introduces a new user interface designed to simplify cloud deployments and support Smart Cache deployment in public cloud environments. The updated experience provides a more intuitive workflow for configuring and deploying Smart Cache and Storage Sync in Azure and AWS.
The new UI aligns with Egnyte’s modern platform design and improves overall usability by clearly separating different workflows and simplifying navigation across deployment steps.
Key enhancements include:
- Users can now step by step select the deployment type (Storage sync or SmartCache) first, choose their cloud provider(AWS or Azure), configure networking (existing VPC/VNet or create new), and complete setup through a guided flow.
- Separation of workflows, with snapshot creation now independent from deployment flows for better clarity
- This update improves usability, reduces setup complexity, and aligns PCC with Egnyte’s modern interface design.
- Navigation has been simplified, allowing users to access Public Cloud Connections directly from the main interface removing the need for left navigation.
- The connections page now provides a unified view with separate tabs for connections and snapshots, making it easier to manage deployments and related operations in one place.
- The updated list view includes enhanced filtering options such as status, cloud type, device type, and creation date. These filters persist across sessions, improving usability for ongoing management.
Issues Addressed
Disk Addition Failing on AWS-Based Smart Cache / PCC Devices
Fixed disk addition failures on AWS Smart Cache by adding NVMe-aware rescan logic to the provisioning playbook, unblocking storage expansion for AWS deployments.
Serial Console Access issue on Azure-Deployed Smart Cache
The serial console on Azure-hosted Smart Cache devices did not present a login prompt, preventing access to the maintenance menu. Customers on Azure can now access the maintenance menu via serial console.
