External Release Notes: Copilot (March 18, 2026)
New Features and Enhancements
AI Powered Smart Search
Egnyte now enables users to find files and folders by simply typing search queries in plain language. Users can also type @username to quickly surface content associated with a specific user. This makes search more natural and efficient, helping users discover relevant content faster, reduce time spent navigating folders, and quickly locate files tied to specific collaborators.
The feature will be gradually rolled out to all customers with the Copilot add-on by March 31, 2026. Contact the Egnyte account manager or Egnyte Sales team to get access to this feature.
MCP Server - Admin Controls for Allowed Apps
Admins can now control which applications are allowed to connect to the Egnyte MCP Server. By default, access is enabled for ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, and Local MCP Tooling (CLI tools such as Claude CLI, Cursor, Gemini CLI and more.).
An additional Unregistered Web MCP Clients option is available but disabled by default; enabling it allows any web-based MCP client without a registered redirect URI to connect, which is highly permissive and should be used with caution. This provides admins with greater control over AI integrations while helping maintain a secure connection environment.
