Voice Shortcuts to Control the Egnyte iOS App

Overview

Voice Shortcuts are supported in the Egnyte iOS mobile app, enabling hands-free access to commonly used actions through Siri. This integration allows tasks to be performed efficiently while on the go by using natural language commands.

Requirements

  • App Version: These features are available starting with Egnyte iOS App V 9.4.
  • Siri Configuration: Siri must be enabled in the iOS device settings for voice commands to function.

Siri and System Shortcuts Integration

Voice Commands

Selected Egnyte actions can be initiated using voice commands through Siri. To ensure the system directs the command to the correct application, the word "Egnyte" must be included in the phrase (for example, "Hey Siri, open Egnyte Copilot").

The following voice-enabled actions are supported. While primary commands are listed below and are recommended, similar natural language variations can also be recognized by the system:

  • Opening Egnyte Copilot: The Copilot interface is launched directly into chat mode.
    • Primary command: “Open Egnyte Copilot”
  • Accessing Recent Files: Immediate access is provided to the most recently viewed or edited files within the platform.
    • Primary command: “Open recent files in Egnyte”
  • Starting a Document Scan: The mobile camera is activated to begin a new document scan directly into the Egnyte environment.
    • Primary command: “Scan a document in Egnyte”
  • Opening Search: The search functionality within the app is launched to help locate specific files or folders.
    • Primary command: “Open Egnyte search”
  • Uploading a Photo: The photo or video upload process is initiated by opening the Photos app view from which images and videos can be selected for upload to the Egnyte cloud.
    • Primary command: “Upload a photo to Egnyte”
  • Uploading Files: The file upload process is initiated by opening the Files app view from which specific files can be selected for upload to the Egnyte cloud.
    • Primary command: “Upload files to Egnyte”
  • Taking a Photo: The app camera is triggered to capture a new image for immediate storage in Egnyte.
    • Primary command: “Take a photo in Egnyte”
  • Uploading Geotagged Photos: The process for uploading photos from specific location is started by opening a screen where the location can be specified on a map. Once it is selected, photos taken at the location are filtered and can be uploaded to the Egnyte cloud.
    • Primary command: “Upload photos from a location in Egnyte”

System-Level Access and Shortcuts

In addition to Siri, these frequently used actions are available within the iOS environment through the Shortcuts app.

Accessing Egnyte via the Shortcuts App and Creating Home Screen Quick Actions

The Egnyte actions are integrated into the iOS Shortcuts app, which facilitates the automation of tasks and provides quick access from the device.

  • App Navigation: Launching the Shortcuts app on the iOS device provides access to all configured automations.
  • Locating Egnyte Actions: Finding the Egnyte section is possible by navigating to the Library tab.
  • Initiating Tasks: Tapping an action such as Open recent files in Egnyte or Scan document triggers the associated action immediately by opening the Egnyte app directly into the requested task.
  • Adding the Shortcut to Home Screen: Long-pressing on any of the action icons opens a context menu with the option to add the shortcut to home screen and creating a new shortcut in the app.  The shortcut appears as an icon on the home screen, allowing for the direct launch of the specified Egnyte feature.
