Changing permissions during migration (Limited Availability)

Audience

Any user of Migration App.

Context

This feature allows a user to map a source user or group permission to a different Egnyte user or group permission during the migration process. Please note this is just a re-mapping of permissions and does not replace the permission migration step.

Users can click on the Download default Permission Mapping link to download the sample CSV, fill it with their data, and upload it back for mapping users and group permissions.

This feature is currently in Limited Availability for all customers. To request this feature, contact our Products team.

Limitations

  • All users and groups specified in the mapping must already exist in Egnyte. New entities cannot be created by this feature.
  • The mappings are one-to-one. A single user or group cannot be mapped to multiple source entities.
  • If a source user or group name is identical to an existing user or group name in Egnyte, any custom mapping involving these will be ignored. The permission will migrate by name match.
Example: If a source user (say, user_2) is mapped to a different user or group (say, user_3) in Egnyte, but user_2 is also present in Egnyte; user_2’s existing permissions will be overwritten to match the source’s user_2.
  • If a user is removed after permissions are migrated, and the permissions are later re-migrated (first without sync and then with sync), the user will still keep access to that folder.
