Migration Assistance Tool simplifies large-scale data migrations by automatically splitting oversized jobs into manageable tasks. Data sets that exceed system limits, such as 10 TB in size or 15 million files, often require bypassing these thresholds, which can be challenging and time-consuming. Manually creating tickets to bypass these limits can lead to delays and performance issues, especially when dealing with complex migration schedules or tight deadlines.
By automating the job splitting process this tool ensures that large data sets are efficiently divided into smaller, more manageable migrations. By splitting jobs based on data patterns, the tool optimizes performance, reduces the risk of system overloads, and minimizes the manual effort required.

Create Migration Job using Migration Assistance
Using Migration Assistance, users can create a project and split the migration into multiple jobs.
Create Project
-
Click on Migration Assistance on top-right.
-
Click on Create new Project.
- Enter the details and click on Create Project.
- Project Name: Give a name to the project
- Agent: Select the agent from the list of options available or add a new agent
- Source Folder Path: Enter the source folder path
-
Destination Parameters: Enter the destination folder path
A new project will be created and the scan will begin. The user can view the details of the project by clicking on the respective row.
Scanning at this point will only show the number of files or folders and size of files scanned based on the data set selected for the project.
Create Migration Jobs
Once the project is created and the scanning is complete, the user can create migration jobs using the Migration Assistance tool if the total number of files or the file size exceeds the set limits.
- The default limit for maximum files count is 15 Million and files size is 10 TB.
If the limit(s) are exceeded, the user can create migration jobs. If the limits are not exceeded, the users can create migration jobs and a single migration will be suggested in this scenario.
- Click on Create Migration Jobs.
Alternatively, click on Simulate Scan Source if the data has been modified to re-scan the source data. - Migration Project will be automatically split into migration jobs based on the data set selected for the project. Provide a name and choose the agent for each of the jobs and click on Create Migration. The other fields as Destination Path, Exclusion Rules, and Confluence Mode cannot be edited for any of these jobs.
- End users can select specific migration jobs from the list displayed in the Create Migrations dialog window, rather than having to select all of them. They can also return to the Create Migrations dialog window at a later time to choose any remaining migration jobs that were not selected and created initially.
The source path is editable; however, only the root source path can be edited.
The jobs will be created for the project.
Pick and selecting the jobs from the Create Migrations dialog window:
View Job Details
The user can click on a job to view its source and destination path.
They can also click on the three-dots menu for the respective job and click on the Details option to view the details of the job selected.
The jobs will also be listed on the Migration dashboard for the users to view the details.
Once the scanning is completed, the customer can migrate data for these jobs.
Download Validation Report (Limited Availability)
Users can download the consolidated validation report at the project-level.
For any of the projects under Migration Assistance, click on Download Report to download the validation report.
This feature is currently in limited availability. To enable this feature, contact our Products team.
The report includes filename, path, remarks, and the migration ID. The migration ID column provides guidance to the users on which migration job or true up should be run to ensure all files are migrated successfully.
Manage Project settings
Users get an option to manage project settings while creating a new project. They can choose to enable data migration from symbolic links and select sanitization options. Users can also update these project settings from the project page.
Add Additional Agents
Users can configure additional agents in the project.
Comprehensive Scan
Admins can choose to run a comprehensive scan for the source when creating jobs through Migration assistance. If the user chooses to run a comprehensive scan, all excluded folders will be evaluated, and detailed exclusion stats will be displayed after the scan is completed. This is OFF by default.
Delete Project
Navigate to Migration Assistance -> three-dots menu for the respective project and click on Delete project.
The delete option will be disabled for the project if the simulate scan or any migration associated with it exists, it would be required to delete all the related jobs in order to delete the project.
