Egnyte offers a file comparison feature, allowing users to compare a file with its previous versions or with a different file altogether. This functionality highlights the differences between the two documents, making it easier for users to track changes, ensure accuracy, and maintain consistency across document versions.
The feature is available with Egnyte’s PDF File Handler Add-On. Contact your Sales Rep or Egnyte Sales team for more details.
To carry out file comparison, Open the file in preview and select the Compare document option.
Alternatively, open context menu in WebUI and select Compare document.
The user will get the option to select a document for comparison. If the file has earlier versions, a list of the previous versions will appear to choose from.
- Select A different document to compare with a different file OR click An older version and select the previous version of the file for comparison.
- Click on Compare.
Text-based Comparison
The comparison will show the two documents side-by-side with an additional panel that shows the list of differences between the documents. Clicking on a difference in the panel will automatically scroll the documents to show where the difference was detected. This allows the user to quickly navigate the document focusing on the differences.
There are 3 toggles while comparing the document:
- Sync zoom and scroll behavior: If enabled, syncs zoom and scroll of both documents together
- Show differences: If enabled, it will highlight differences between the two documents
- View list of differences: If enabled, shows differences in panel at the right.
Overlay-based Comparison
The user can also select overlay-based comparison when comparing the two documents.
The overlay-based comparison displays the two documents overlaid on top of one another in a single panel which is ideal for comparing documents containing drawings.
- Click on Overlay for overlay-based comparison.
The common elements in the document are shown in their regular color, while the unique elements in the primary document are highlighted in green.
Unique elements in the secondary document are highlighted in red.
User has the options for the secondary document to:
- Rotate clockwise / anti-clockwise
- Move left / right/ up / down
- Zoom-in / Zoom -out
The primary document is the document that the user wants to compare and the secondary document is the one selected for comparison.
Change Document or Version to Compare
