Creating Document from Egnyte Templates

The word Template here means a pre-formatted file type that can be used to quickly create a specific file. Everything such as font, size, color and background pictures are pre-formatted but users can also edit them.

File template capability allows having Template files in one place so that it is easier to manage them and provide access to end-users.

The system creates the following folder automatically, all the template files should be uploaded to this folder:

/Shared/Egnyte Templates/File Templates

A user must have view permissions to this folder in order to create a new document using templates.

How to use

  1. Right-click on the desired location in Egnyte Drive. Navigate to the Create New Document option in the context menu.
  2. Select preferred document type.

Known Limitations

  1. Files in the ‘/Shared/Egnyte Templates/File Templates’ folder are only recognised as templates. Egnyte supports only a flat structure for file templates for now. Any files in sub-folders will not be taken into account.
  2. If a user (or admin) deletes the "/Shared/Egnyte Templates" directory, either it needs to be restored from trash, or the folder structure needs to be manually recreated.
  3. Egnyte requires using names for the folders, as written above. Otherwise, users might not be able to see and use templates successfully.
  4. If Cloud start path is configured in desktop application, it must include /File Templates folder to create documents using templates.
  5. Offline creation of documents using templates is not supported.
  6. Only one document can be created at a time.
