New Password policy for enhanced security on Storage Sync

This article outlines a new password policy that will be effective from version 12.23 onwards. This policy will enforce all user accounts in Storage Sync (except Active Directory authenticated accounts) to comply with the enhanced security requirements.

 

The new strong password policy details are below:

  • Minimum 12 characters in length.
  • Should contain at least 1 uppercase, 1 lowercase, 1 numerical, and 1 special character.
  • Should not contain any dictionary words.
  • Cannot be any of the last three passwords used.

 

This new stronger password policy is enforced on these user accounts:

1. Local storage sync user account.

2. Egnyte service account and elevated user account.

- The current users ( Egnyte Users or Egnyte Service account ) can continue to use existing passwords.
- But if user needs to reset or modify the password then, the new password policy will kick in which means users should adhere to the new password policy.
- If there is no requirement to change or reset the password then users can continue to use the existing password without any issue.
