Restore Files and Folders from Trash

Everyone makes mistakes, which is why Egnyte provides the option to restore content from Trash before it's permanently removed. Trash is only stored for a period specified by the Admins, so be sure to restore items accidentally deleted as soon as you're aware of the error.

Administrators have the capability to enable this function for Power Users. If there are access issues concerning the Trash folder, contact an Administrator for assistance. Learn more about the Trash and Retention Policy Settings in Egnyte.

Filters for Deleted Items

The following quick filters are available in Trash:

  • All - This is the default selection and shows all the items in Trash
  • Deleted by Egnyte - Items automatically deleted due to system action
  • Deleted by users - Items deleted by the user themselves

- Quick Filters are available only for Admins, and Power Users with the capabilities to manage trash.
- Deleted by Egnyte will show the items deleted by Egnyte going forward. Items that are already deleted will not be treated as system deleted and hence, will not appear under this filter.

Users can click on More filters, select the desired filter(s), and click on Apply. Egnyte’s trash filter tool lets the users  filter with the following fields.

  • Type: Files and/or folders
  • Item name: File or folder name
  • Original location: Manually enter a folder path or browse to a specific folder or sub-folder from which a file or sub-folder has been deleted (if the folder still exists)
  • Deleted by: User ID or first and last name
  • Deleted date: Last 180 Days (default selection), today, yesterday, last 7 days, last 30 days, or a custom date range

The results will be displayed to the maximum number of days set in Trash Purge settings.

Deleted by filter is only available for All or Deleted by users quick filters. If the user has selected Deleted by Egnyte as the quick filter then the Deleted by filter is automatically disabled.

Admins have the option to filter and view the list of items scheduled for purging tomorrow, within the next 3 days, or next week.

- Power Users can only view trash content they've deleted. Admins can view the trash content for the entire domain. Admins can enable trash management capabilities for the Power Users.
- Admins who restore folders from the trash are given an option on whether to restore the original permissions of the folder or to use the permissions of the parent folder. When a Power User restores a folder, the original permissions are always restored.
