Egnyte allows customizing cloud storage depending on the geo-location residency requirements or on the cloud storage provider of the customer’s choice. Egnyte’s Public Cloud Connector provides different options to configure the cloud storage based on the use-case requirements. How can a user access the Public Cloud Connector?
The easiest way to check for this capability is to open a web browser, sign in to the Egnyte cloud account as an administrator, click on the grid icon on the top left and verify if Public Cloud Connector is available in the drop-down list.
If the option is not available, please reach out to the Egnyte account manager to discuss the steps to enable the feature for the account.
Next, click Public Cloud Connector to open the dashboard. The click Manage under Data Residency. If all options are disabled, the plan must be upgraded to customize the storage bucket.
A user has geo-location data residency requirements. How can they select a cloud storage tenant in their region?
In the Public Cloud Connector dashboard, click on Manage option in the Data Residency widget.
Click on Specific Geolocation. If theEgnyte account is created in the US region, the admin will be able to configure the storage bucket in Canada and Australia geo-locations.
If Egnyte cloud is created in EU, the admin will be able to configure United Kingdom, Switzerland, Singapore and Finland.
Click on Save and confirm the choice. Please read through the instructions carefully before confirming the choice.
Once the changes are confirmed, the Egnyte storage will automatically get configured to a storage tenant in the specified location.
Does Egnyte automatically migrate previously uploaded content when a customer changes cloud storage location?
All the previously uploaded content is preserved in the originally configured storage tenant. When a customer configures the account with a new cloud storage location, users can still continue to view and access the previously uploaded content. However any newly created content will be uploaded to the new cloud storage location. Customers cannot migrate the content from the original storage location to the newly configured storage location.
How to configure Egnyte with Azure storage bucket?
Navigate to the Public Cloud Connector dashboard. Click on Manage option in the Data Residency widget on the right panel.
Select My Own Bucket.
Enter the Account ID, the associated Secret and the Azure Storage Container details. This can be obtained from the Azure account portal. Click Save.
Confirm adding the custom Azure storage bucket. Enter the required information in the editable field. Note that it would not be possible to undo the configuration after this step. Click on Yes, I want to continue.
A confirmation will appear informing that Egnyte has configured the custom storage bucket.
Click on Close. The data residency widget will now display an Azure icon to indicate that the Azure storage bucket is successfully configured.
How to configure Egnyte with AWS storage bucket?
Navigate to the Public Cloud Connector dashboard. Click on Manage option in the Data Residency widget on the right panel.
Select My Own Bucket.
Select the AWS S3 radio button.
Provide the IAM user’s access keys, the required credentials and the Storage Container from Amazon S3 portal. Click on Save.
Enter the required text in the editable field. Note that it would not be possible to revert this change after this point. Click on Yes I want to continue.
Confirm adding the custom Azure storage bucket. Enter the required information in the editable field. Note that it would not be possible to undo the configuration after this step. Click on Yes, I want to continue.
A confirmation will appear informing that Egnyte has configured the custom storage bucket.
Can a user select a data residency location on Azure storage owned and managed by Egnyte?
Navigate to the Public Cloud Connector dashboard. Click on Manage option in the Data Residency widget on the right panel.
Select the third option Egnyte on Azure.
If the Egnyte account is hosted in US, one can choose Azure storage tenants from Canada or Australia regions.
If the Egnyte account is hosted in EU, one can choose Azure storage tenants in United Kingdom and Switzerland regions.Select the desired option and click on Save. Enter the text in the editable field in order to continue. Note that it will not be possible to change the configuration after this step.
The Egnyte account is now configured with Azure storage bucket in the specified region.
