Customize Your Cloud Storage on Egnyte

Egnyte allows you to customize your cloud storage depending on your geo-location residency requirements or on the cloud storage provider of your choice. Egnyte’s Public Cloud Connector provides you with different options to configure the cloud storage based on your use-case requirements. This article walks you through the configuration details and also provides answers to the most frequently asked questions around this topic.

How do I access the Public Cloud Connector?

The easiest way to check if you have this capability is to open a web browser, sign in to your Egnyte cloud account as an administrator, click on the grid icon on the top left and verify if you see Public Cloud Connector in the drop-down list.

If you do not see it, please reach out to your Egnyte account manager to discuss how you can get this enabled for your account. 

Next, click on Public Cloud Connector. This opens the Public Cloud Connector dashboard. Click on “Manage data residency” in the right widget. If all the options are disabled, you will require to upgrade your plan in order to customize the storage bucket.Public

I have geo-location data residency requirements. How do I select a cloud storage tenant in my region?

I want Egnyte to provide cloud storage in a specific region. Is that possible?

In the Public Cloud Connector dashboard, click on Manage Data Residency in the data residency widget.

Click on Specific Geolocation. If you have created your Egnyte account in the US region, you will be able to configure the storage bucket in Canada and Australia geo-locations.

If you have created your Egnyte cloud in EU, you will be able to configure United Kingdom, Switzerland, Singapore and Finland.

When you click Save, you will be required to confirm your choice. Please read through the instructions carefully before confirming your choice.

Once you’ve confirmed the change, your Egnyte storage will automatically get configured to a storage tenant in the specified location.

If I change the storage location, what happens to my previously uploaded content?

Do you automatically migrate previously uploaded content when I change cloud storage location?

All the previously uploaded content is preserved in the originally configured storage tenant. When you configure your account with a new cloud storage location, users can still continue to view and access the previously uploaded content. However any newly created content will be uploaded to the new cloud storage location. You cannot migrate the content from the original storage location to the newly configured storage location. 

How do I configure Egnyte with my Azure storage bucket?

Navigate to the Public Cloud Connector dashboard

Click on Manage Data Residency in the second widget on the right panel. Select My Own Bucket

Enter the Account ID, the associated secret and the Azure container. You can obtain this information from your Azure account portal. Click Save

Next, you will need to confirm adding your custom Azure storage bucket. Enter the required information in the editable field. Note that you will not be able to undo the configuration after this step. Click on “Yes, I want to continue”

You will see a confirmation that Egnyte has configured your custom storage bucket.

Click on Close. The data residency widget will now display an Azure icon to indicate that you have successfully configured an Azure storage bucket.

How do I configure Egnyte with my AWS storage bucket?

Navigate to the Public Cloud Connector dashboard. Click on Manage Data Residency in the right panel

Click on My Own Bucket option

Select the AWS S3 radio button

Provide the IAM user’s access keys, the required credentials and the storage container from your Amazon S3 portal. Click on Save

Enter the required text in the editable field. Note that you will not be able to revert this change after this point. Click on “Yes I want to continue”

Click Close. The data residency widget will display the Amazon S3 storage details upon successful configuration

Can I select a data residency location on Azure storage owned and managed by Egnyte?

Navigate to the Public Cloud Connector dashboard

Click on Manage Data Residency on the right panel. Select the third option Egnyte on Azure.

If your Egnyte account is hosted in US, you can choose Azure storage tenants from Canada or Australia regions

If your Egnyte account is hosted in EU, you can choose Azure storage tenants in United Kingdom and Switzerland regions

Select the desirable option and click on Save. Enter the text in the editable field in order to continue. Note that you will not be able to change the configuration after this step.

Your Egnyte account is now configured with Azure storage bucket in the specified region
