Local Storage Settings
When Device Storage is enabled by an administrator at the domain level, users can set up local storage parameters in the mobile application’s settings.
Local storage can be enabled by turning on the storage toggle. An additional option is available to automatically save downloaded files for offline access.
Memory can be allocated for local storage, with options for 2 GB, 10 GB, or unlimited space.
Users can also set a timeframe for when locally saved files will be automatically deleted.
In the File Size Warning section, different alert values can be set for cellular and Wi-Fi networks. Warnings can be configured for files over 100 MB or 500 MB, or the feature can be turned off completely. For wifi networks, warnings can be set for files over 1 GB or 2 GB, or the feature can be turned off.
Offline Access
To ensure access to files even when offline, files or folders can be marked for offline use. When marked, the selected files are downloaded to a device's storage, making them accessible through the Egnyte app interface. This feature is particularly useful when working with files while offline.
Downloading Files to iOS and Android Apps
In both the iOS and Android apps, files can be saved to various locations supported by a device's operating system. To do this, open the desired file and tap the Share button. From there, files can be saved to native file systems like the iOS Files App or the Gallery App on Android, as well as other supported locations.
Dedicated Download Option in the Android App
The Egnyte Android app provides a dedicated Download option. This feature allows for the selection and download of specific files and folders to a device's default storage.
Drag and Drop on iPads and iPhones
iPad users can take advantage of the drag-and-drop functionality to move files between applications and storage by dragging and dropping them in the split screen view.
Admin Controls for Download Access
Domain admins have control over user access to downloads. They can configure download settings to align with security and compliance requirements using the following options:
- Enable or disable device storage. When device storage is enabled, users can download files for offline access. When device storage is enabled, admins can also set up the time after which files marked for offline use are automatically deleted. They can allow encrypted storage only and decide if folder downloads will be allowed, too.
- Use the Delete the locally stored data on the mobile device option to remove the marked for offline files from the device storage.
- Leverage mobile device management (MDM) solutions like Microsoft Intune to enforce device-level policies that restrict or control downloading files on managed devices.
By utilizing these administrative controls, admins can tailor the download capabilities within the Egnyte mobile app based on their organization's requirements and security considerations.
The available functionalities may vary based on the device's operating system version and app updates.
