Configure Sync Deletes

Users have the option to configure sync deletions once the initial scan is complete.

The users have the option to opt out of syncing deletions during True-Ups. This allows users to modify their selection at any point before the job is executed. Additionally, users can choose to proceed with migration jobs, even if data deletions exceed the configured limit at the domain level, by unchecking the pause option.

Default Selection

Sync Deletes option is available under on-command job confirmation and in the scheduler options.

Users can navigate to the migration dashboard and access the details of a migration job. They can then click on Migration job actions -> True-up.

By default, there is no value selected for sync deletions under the true-up options.

Opt-In for Sync Deletes

Users can opt-in for sync deletions by selecting Yes as their choice. This will ensure that the migrations jobs proceed and do not pause if the data deletions surpass the configured limit.

Pause the Job and Send Notifications

If the users opt-in for sync deletions, they have the option to choose to pause the migration job and send notification if the data deletion exceeds the configured limit at domain level.  They can click on the checkbox to enable sync deletions.

On selecting the checkbox, the data deletions on the destination will be stopped when source deletions are detected. Additionally, an email notification will be sent out.

Sync Deletes with Warning Report

UI Warning Notification

If the user chooses to pause the migration job and send notification once the data deletions exceed the configured limit at the domain level, an alert appears for the users to review and confirm sync deletions.  They can click on the file(s) link to review the file(s).

Email Notification

The users also receive an email notification to review and provide approval for sync deletions. They can review the files using the link in the email and navigate to the migration dashboard to provide the confirmation.

Sample Email:

"Subject: Important Review and Approval Required for Synchronized Deletions - Migration ID: [Migration ID]

This is an important message to inform you that the migration job [Migration ID] for domain domain.egnyte.com has been temporarily paused.

The True-Up command will not proceed due to the system detecting an unusual number of deletions. This means that we detected more deletions than expected on the source. If allowed to proceed, these items will be deleted on the destination.
In order to maintain the integrity of your data and ensure the accuracy of the migration, we kindly request your immediate attention in reviewing the deletions scheduled.

To facilitate this review, we have generated a list of files scheduled for deletion. You can access and review the list by clicking on the following link: Review Files.

Once you have thoroughly examined the files:

  • If you are confident in proceeding with synchronized deletion, please confirm and approve by navigating to the migration job from the Migration Dashboard.
    OR
  • If you determine the files should NOT be deleted, navigate to the migration job and stop the command. We recommend you then opt out of Sync Deletes in Advanced Options. You may then restart the True-Up.

Your swift response is crucial in ensuring the seamless continuation of the True-Up process."

Once the Migration Operator has responded, the job will either resume as configured (and the data will be deleted), or with Sync Deletes disabled, the True-Up can be restarted without deleting the data.

The default thresholds are set at 50 files and 50GB. This means that if a true-up job identifies 50 files or more, OR 50GB or more of data to be deleted, the true-up job will automatically pause, and an email notification will be sent. For customizing these settings for the domain, please contact Egnyte Support to request changes to any of these settings.

Opt-Out of Sync Deletes

Users can opt-out of sync deletes by selecting the radio button to No.

In the following scenario, Sync Deletes is set to No. Some files were deleted on the source and a True-Up was executed. On the Migration Details page, under True-Up data, hovering over the i next to Files on Source Previously Migrated displays a tooltip stating This is a count of the files still existing on the source that were previously migrated. You may have migrated more files in previous commands, but this is the number still existing.
