Credentials no longer valid for xxxx File Server (xxxx.egnyte.com)

Context

Secure and Govern admins can receive emails with a subject line similar to the title of this article if the credentials used to authorize the source become invalid. This can happen if there are account changes such as password change, user account deactivated or deleted, or the user is no longer an admin

Admins can either reauthorise the source so that Secure & Govern can start monitoring again or they can remove the source to stop receiving such alerts. Egnyte strongly recommends reauthorising so that customers can take full advantage of the Secure & Govern features to make their account secure, and compliant with the applicable regulations.

Steps to update credentials or reauthorize the source

  1. Click on the app picker menu and select Secure and Govern from the list.

Egnyte recommends using service accounts to authorize the source to avoid such issues.

Steps to remove a source

  1. Click on the app picker menu and select Secure and Govern from the list.

  2. Click on Settings > Content Sources.

  3. Select the content source to be removed from monitoring.

  4. Click on the three-dot menu at the top right and select Remove Source.

If credentials are not valid for a source and content lifecycle policies were enabled then removal may fail as Secure & Govern needs valid credentials to unstamp the files. In such a case, reauthorize the source and then remove it.
