Egnyte now allows the ability to collaborate with your G Suite documents with files that are directly stored in Egnyte. Files are located in Egnyte and not in Google Drive and come with all Egnyte permissions and controls. Files are automatically saved back into Egnyte.
This is beta and must be configured by both Google and Egnyte to access. More functionality will be added as we deepen the integration in the Trusted Test phase.
Note: This only works with opening G suite files (Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides) from the Egnyte and not from Google Drive. Beta only supports WebUI and OnPrem Egnyte and not the desktop app. There is no migration tool for moving files between Google Drive and Egnyte at this time. Collaboration is limited to only internal sharing tied to the other members of your domain.
- Create new Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides documents and save them directly to Egnyte. Within the Egnyte WebUI, users can browse their Egnyte File system and open and edit documents.
- No matter where team members are located, they can collaborate in real-time using G-Suite with the benefits of Egnyte’s secure and easy file-sharing solution.
- All changes are automatically saved back to your Egnyte Cloud Storage.
An admin user on your domain should enter the Egnyte App Store by clicking "Apps & Add-Ons" in the Web UI.
Then, hover over the Egnyte for G Suite Integration app and click the Settings icon. Choose to either "Allow users to add" or "Add for all users" option
- Add for all users: This is the simplest way to deploy the app to all users in your organization. This option makes the app instantly available for all users and is best when all of your users have an G suite subscription.
- Allow users to add: This makes the app visible to all users on the Apps page; but, each user must add the app on their own. This is best for organizations that do not have G suite licenses for all users.
Note: For certain users that want to use the only the new beta integration turn off Google Drive in the App Store for those users.
How it Works
1. Login to Google Account (Gmail)
2. On separate tab login to Egnyte account with corresponding e-mail address.
3a. From Egnyte WebUI access you can either create a new document
3b. or open an existing .gdoc/.gsheet/.gslides or Microsoft Office files
4. Either the new file or the edit file will be opened in the correct corresponding G-suite viewer
