Egnyte Connect’s integration with Microsoft Azure enables you to leverage Egnyte’s enterprise caliber file sync and share while keeping your data in Azure storage. This article covers how to sign up for Egnyte Connect from the Azure marketplace and set up your account for use with Microsoft Azure.
Existing Egnyte customers who are interested in using Azure storage should contact customer support to proceed.
Create Egnyte Connect Virtual Machine
To get started, create the Egnyte Connect virtual machine from the listing in the Azure Marketplace. Please use the recommended size for the virtual machine.
Similarly, please use the default options for the settings of the virtual machine.
Once you have created the virtual machine, you can proceed to creating an Egnyte Connect trial account.
Create Egnyte Connect Trial Account
Once your virtual machine is deployed in Azure, you can view its details in the portal. Go to the overview for your virtual machine — you should see a field for the public IP address. Click on the IP address.
You should now see a detailed view for the IP address associated with your virtual machine. You'll see an IP address listed in the overview section here.
Copy and paste this IP address into the URL bar of your web browser. You will be redirected to a page where you can register for an Egnyte Connect trial account.
Fill out the form, and you will automatically be logged into your new Egnyte Connect account.
Configure Azure Storage
When you first log in to your Egnyte Connect account, you will be prompted to configure your Azure storage settings. Note that this is a mandatory step that must be completed before you can begin using Egnyte Connect.
Click “Go to Azure Configuration” in the dialog to proceed.
You will automatically be taken to the Storage Provider section in your account’s settings. For reference, you can find this section under Settings → Configuration → Security & Authentication.
Now enter the Account ID, Secret, and Storage Container associated with your Azure subscription.
Account ID: refers to the name of the storage account in Azure that you want to use to store your data.
You must create a storage account first if you do not already have one. Select the option for "Storage Account" in the marketplace in your Azure portal. We recommend choosing the following settings when creating your storage account:
- Deployment Model: Resource Manager
- Account Kind: Blob storage
- Replication: Geo-redundant Storage (GRS)
- Access Tier: Hot is preferable. But Cool will work as well.
Secret: refers to the first access key for the storage account you have chosen. This can be found in Settings → Access Keys while browsing your chosen storage account in the Azure portal.
Storage Container: refers to the specific container within the storage account you’ve chosen where your Egnyte files will be stored. Go to the Overview section of your storage account to see its storage containers.
If you do not have any containers available yet, please create one to be used with your Egnyte account.
Click save once you have entered the Account ID, Secret, and Storage Container into the Storage Provider settings section in Egnyte. You will see a green check mark next to the save button if your Azure storage settings have been accepted.
You’re now ready to begin using Egnyte Connect! Check out our Getting Started guide for some useful resources to kickstart your trial.
Changing storage provider settings
Once you have configured your storage provider settings, you will not be able to change them directly from Egnyte Connect’s Web UI. Please contact Egnyte Support if you need to change any of these details.
