Which Egnyte desktop client should I use?

Overview

Egnyte offers several means for you to access the files you store in the cloud from your desktop: Desktop App, Desktop Sync, and Web Edit. These products work in different ways and each has distinct advantages.

Desktop App

When should I use it?

  • If you want the best experience when accessing your files directly from Windows or Mac without needing the disk space to store every file.
  • If you still want the flexibility to sync some content to your machine for offline access.
Advantages
  • Safeguards against computer loss since files are not persisted locally (unless sync is enabled).
  • Edits are saved back to the cloud immediately.
  • Users have the option to sync content for offline access.
  • Files are automatically locked while editing to prevent conflicting changes from different users.
