Maximum Folder and File Size

You can sync up to 20,000 files in any folder.  Files in sub-folders DO NOT count against this total, so you can also have up to 20,000 files in each sub-folder. Desktop Sync is designed to synchronize up to 500,000 files per desktop. If you anticipate needing to sync more than 500,000 files, you might be better-served by Storage Sync

In addition, you can sync files up to 10GB in size (please note that the max file size depends on your plan type). For more information, please click here.

We require dual core or quad core processors to run the Desktop Sync application; machines with a single core processor may see high CPU consumption with a subsequent loss in performance.

File Type Limitations

There are certain specialized application file types like those used in databases (Oracle databases, Mysql, SQL server, Access DB), Exchange servers, and virtual machines (e.g. VMWare) which are left open for extended periods of time while changes are made. While you can store these application file types in Egnyte, you cannot host them within Egnyte's cloud or sync applications. The reason for this is that Egnyte is not able to sync changes to these file types while they remain open. If you choose to keep application file types like this in your Egnyte account, use caution when storing them in a synced folder.

In addition, syncing of extended file attributes (and resource forks for Mac OSX) is currently not supported. Certain applications such as Quark, Quicken, OmniGraffle store important data in extended attributes. As such, it is not recommended to sync these file at this time.

User Requirements

Desktop Sync is designed for use by a single employee on a single computer; it's not possible to install multiple clients on a single computer that is shared by several workers. In cases where Desktop Sync is installed on a computer with multiple users, we recommend choosing a sync directory that is only accessible by the users who should have access to the synchronized content.

Desktop Sync is also not designed to operate on a server with multiple employees accessing files through local permissions. For server sync, Egnyte recommends installing Storage Sync.

To install and run Desktop Sync, you must be logged in as a user with administrative rights to the computer.

The Desktop Sync local data folder cannot be stored on a Network Drive or External Drive.
