Log Management

Initially, this is not enabled by default on all domains, but is available by request.

Why is this Valuable to Migration Operators?

When users have long-running migration jobs, the logs stored on the local host and Egnyte domain can become cumbersome. If a job has run multiple commands, the local host could actually run out of storage and this will error out subsequent jobs. There is a way to cull the logs from the local host, but it’s a cumbersome process. With Log Management enabled, the Migration Operator is granted control over the number of logs they wish to retain.

How Does Log Management Work?

  • If a user has a job that has run multiple commands, job logs on the host machine can be automatically purged of the older CSV files.
  • This is controlled through Advanced Options.
  • From the Migration Details, go to Advanced Options >> Log Management

    Migration

  • After enabling Log Management, use the dropdown menu to specify retention of up to 10 versions of the logs. You must then click Save to save the configuration.

    Migration

  • The settings for Log Management also appear on the Migration Details page on the right column along with other Advanced Options details.

    Migration

  • Once enabled, the next command that runs will include a purge of unnecessary logs on the host machine.
