What are the other names used for data collection mode?
Data collection mode is also referred as “Network share Collaboration” or “SMB Collaboration” (because of the nature of the protocol that it supports)
Which are the different Autodesk applications that Smart Cache supports for co-editing of files?
Currently, Smart Cache supports only Revit files for co-editing (Collaboration) and if a user tries for any other application files will result in errors.
What is Revit Collaboration or Revit co-editing of files?
Smart Cache in data collection mode (network share) supports collaboration of Revit files by multiple users on the same Revit file and is supported only when Revit workshare is enabled.
Does Revit collaboration and Caching in Smart Cache be supported on the same device?
Revit collaboration and Desktop App drive connections to the same Smart Cache device is not supported. A separate Smart Cache device needs to be deployed for Revit collaboration.
Does Revit collaboration support on multi-site?
No, Smart Cache only supports single-site Revit collaboration. Revit users connected to different Smart Cache devices cannot work on the same central model.
What are unsupported scenarios of Revit collaboration on a single site?
Below are the unsupported use-cases of Revit collaboration:
- Folders containing Revit central models cannot be selected for synchronization. Currently, it supports Revit collaboration on central models in the cached folders.
- Revit collaboration cannot occur when the Smart Cache device is offline. This is because Smart Cache requires Global File Locking for Revit collaboration.
- Revit Worksharing Monitor is not certified in the current release.
What is Cache warming of files?
It’s basically pre-fetching of files from Egnyte cloud to local cache disk for better and faster opening of files in their native applications.
What is Cache warming configuration?
It’s a setting that controls which files need to be pre-fetched to cache based on two sets of criteria,
- File extension type ( like .docx, .pdf, .rvt file extensions )
- Folder selected ( Any folder in the customer folder structure hierarchy stored in Egnyte cloud )
I have configured certain file types for cache warming for a particular folder but I don’t see an increase in performance of the application load time for the configured files?
Most probably it could be due to cache warming hitting the upper limit count of the device for the configured folder. For example, 5000 files upper limit for the said folder has been hit, so pre-fetching of any files post this limit has stopped and that could be one of the strong reasons why performance of the application load time is not great even though the cache warming feature is enabled for the said file types in that particular folder.
Where can I check the progress of Cache warming of files/folders ?
Go to Devices -> Storage devices -> Select a device that is configured for cache warming -> Settings -> Click on Cache warming page, where you can see the status of the cache warming with full details in terms of number of files and total cache downloaded with break-up for each folder selected in a tabular form.
How to modify the enhanced security feature settings (SMB signing or encryption) in SMB collaboration mode that is available only during Smart Cache configuration time?
Enhanced security feature settings (SMB signing or encryption) is only available during Smart Cache installation time and only way to modify those options are by factory resetting of the device from the Smart Cache command prompt.
