Storage Sync version 11.1.1 now offers a new Mac Optimization feature that vastly enhances usability and performance for Mac-only environments. Customers with predominantly Mac users who work on Mac-specific suite of applications (e.g. Adobe suite such as Illustrator, InDesign) can benefit from vastly improved folder browsing speeds and significantly improved application response times.
Our internal tests show nearly 20X improvement in folder navigation time, and significant improvement in file open/read/write speeds.
This feature is built upon Fruit module for Samba, a new add-on introduced with Samba version 4.4. When this module is enabled on Samba, it improves supportability for Mac clients by customizing response to Mac clients on SMB protocol.
This feature should be turned on in Mac-only environments. Windows clients might observe unexpected behavior when this module is enabled.
How to enable this feature
In Storage Sync UI, go to Device Settings > System Configuration. Turn on the slider for "Optimize performance for Mac-only environments". Click on Save.
Upon enabling this optimization, the UI will display a dialog box that warns about potential discrepancies on Windows systems. Please ensure that your environment has Mac users before you enable this feature. This will restart Samba services (SMB) and users might momentarily lose access to the system.
How to disable this feature
In Storage Sync UI, go to Device Settings > System Configuration. Turn off the slider for "Optimize performance for Mac-only environments". Click on Save.
