Egnyte As a Messaging Extension

Messaging extensions allow users to integrate their favorite apps and services directly into conversations with their colleagues. It is a quick and easy way to collaborate on content directly within Microsoft Teams.

With the Egnyte messaging extension, users can choose from their most recently-updated Egnyte files and share that link within the message.

Adding Messaging Extensions to your Teams

Go to the Teams Apps Store. You can get here through the [•••] icon in your channel

Search and select "Egnyte" from the menu

Select your team to add the Egnyte extension and click "Install"

After adding Egnyte, Teams will give you the option to add Egnyte to multiple places in Teams. Next, Pls, Select "Set Up" for Messaging

Enter in your company domain in the text box, then click "Save"

After successfully authenticating, Egnyte will post it to your channel

To access Egnyte, click on the [•••] icon to open the flyout menu. Here, you can see all of your messaging extensions

You also have the option to pin Egnyte directly into your messaging menu. To do so, click on the [•••] icon next to Egnyte and select "Pin"

To use the Egnyte messaging extension, click on the [•••] icon to search your most recent files or search for the files with the keyword, and it would show you the top 5 relevant choices.

Recent Files (default results):

Or, Search with "Keyword" (added in MS Teams 1.5R - Nov. 2020)

After selecting the file, you can now add it to your conversation.

Now the recipient can open the link to your Egnyte file directly from the chat window.

Egnyte As a Stand-alone Tab option:

With this integration, you can do the following within Microsoft Teams:

Pin an Egnyte folder to a Microsoft Teams tab

Create multiple Egnyte tabs in one team, each pointing to a different folder

Each tab can point to a different domain, pinned to a separate project folder

Only Egnyte admins can configure the Egnyte folder to show in the tab & Users will be able to see only folders they have access to based on their Egnyte account.

Additional Installation and System Requirements:

Egnyte Tab

Egnyte for Microsoft Teams (Legacy) tab app is available in the Microsoft Teams public view.

Egnyte Tab can be added from the (+) section of the Team's Channel. Clicking on the (+) symbol should show Egnyte as one of the App options.

Once you select the Egnyte app, you get a modal window to configure your Egnyte Domain

Once you enter the domain name, the Egnyte tab will be pinned to your Channel with "Shared" as the default starting folder

An Egnyte Admin who is also a member of the relevant Team can configure a new default starting folder by clicking the "Configure default folder (Admin only)" link in the top bar

The admin authorizes and chooses a team specific folder in Egnyte, and your team is all set to collaborate on that folder. Each individual user will still need to login as their user.

You can re-configure your default starting folder at any point. Should the need arise, you can log out of your domain and log back in as a different user.

Tab integration

The access to execute 3rd party Integrations like Office Online, DocuSign, Slack, etc., from the context menu or from the New button is NOW available in the Desktop App version of Teams as well from MS Teams 1.5R onwards (November 2020).

Known Issues and Limitations

  • Egnyte for Microsoft Teams (Legacy) application doesn't support Mobile web for the Egnyte Tab extension. Use MS Teams Desktop and Web Client for this integration.

Internet Explorer 11

  • Internet Explorer 11 is officially NOT supported by this integration. While most features should work, we are not actively working to support this browser.

CSP Integration

  • CSV files are not able to be previewed.
  • After previewing files on the Files App, you will be returned to your root directory.
